It is an adventure game that can be played online and you need to download the game on your computer. The name of the game may be long but the game is simple and it involves you as a player to join Inspector Dupin who has got a mission to find Sara, the missing wife of Mark Davies. You have the task to find out what happened to Sara, and track her whereabouts with the help of Inspector and the clues which you get in the game.

The setting of the game is in early 19th century in France, and you feel yourself immersed in that time as the graphics and storytelling take you in that period. According to Monsieur Mark, her wife was last seen in the company of a mysterious black cat, who has some outlandish appearance. As an investigator, you would naturally look for the missing person’s clues beginning from he home, and as you search Sara’s home, you start to get a feeling that things are not as simple as they seem.

While in the game, you get to see the missing woman along with the black cat a number of times, which increases the mystery further. As far as your task is concerned, where you get clues and keep collecting hidden objects that you have to find from the screen. You also get to play some interesting mini games and need to solve some puzzles if you want to move ahead in the game. There are two modes of game play, the relaxed and the difficult mode. In the relaxed mode, you get hints faster and you are shown the areas of interest earlier and faster. But if you choose to play it in the difficult mode, hints are difficult to come by and you are left on your own and the game becomes more challenging. You have to face many obstacles and puzzles to make a progress in the game.

It is strange that Monsieur Mark, though he has hired you to find his missing wife, isn’t exactly interested in getting back his wife as you find many parts of the mansion locked, sealed or blocked. In comparison, the cat is more helpful as it takes you to areas where you get strong clues about the whereabouts of Sara. The mouse of your computer becomes interactive with certain objects of the house such as upholstery and boxes that you can open with the help of the mouse. The puzzles are nice and intriguing, and you get a lot of fun solving them. All in all, Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat is a wonderful hidden object’s game that has a great story line, very good graphics, and some solid puzzles to keep you interested.
